For the purpose of eligibility for the awards, “taxi driver” means a fully authorised taxi driver who may be a permanent or casual bailee driver or operator who also drives a taxi.

The NSW Taxi Driver of the Month award may be awarded in the month the nomination is received providing the nominated journey occurred in the same month or the month immediately preceding the month the nomination is received. Nominations will not be received prior to 1st June 2008 or after 30th September 2008.

To be eligible for an award, a taxi driver must be driving a taxi that has a licence for which membership dues are paid to the NSWTIA or CTOA and that is financial at the time they are nominated.

Nominations may only be made by bone fide passengers (or carers of WATs passengers) who are not related to or have a direct association with the nominee or who are not directly involved with the administration of the awards including but not limited to member networks, sponsors, NSW Taxi Council Network representatives or NSW Taxi Council administration.

Notwithstanding the above, any taxi operator may nominate a driver who is not related to them and who bails their taxi for the Taxi Operators’ 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year Award.

All award recipients will be selected by an independent panel of judges. The Judges’ decision is final.

The recipients of awards are also eligible to receive other awards. For example, the WATs 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year or the NSW Country 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year may also be NSW 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year.

To be eligible to become NSW Country 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year, the taxi driver must be driving a taxi with a TC licence plate when nominated.

The organisers retain the right to reject any nomination that is not completed in full including contact details of the person making the nomination, or is completed incorrectly or has been completed fraudulently.

Nominated drivers must agree to being nominated prior to final judging and agree for name and photograph if required to be published or used in further advertising or taxi industry promotional material.

The major 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year award winners will be selected from the three monthly award recipients for each month of the award period (twelve drivers)

To be eligible for the major awards the taxi driver must be available to attend an interview in Sydney at a time and on a date to be specified. Failure to attend as requested will result in disqualification.

Epaulettes presented to the selected winning taxi drivers must only be worn by the selected taxi driver.

Monthly award recipients (three drivers) and the customer whose nomination is judged as the best nomination for the Taxi Driver of the Month (one customer) will be announced and prizes awarded within fifteen working days after the award is declared.

All twelve Taxi Driver of the Month award recipients and the four customers whose nominations are judged as the best nominations for the Taxi Driver of the Month will each receive two complimentary tickets to the gala dinner to be held on the evening of 31st October 2008 at the Four Seasons Hotel George Street Sydney.

The 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year award, supporting awards and the customer whose nomination is judged as the best nomination for the 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year award will be announced at the gala dinner

Nominations for the Taxi Operators’ 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year award must be accompanied by the entry fee of $140 per nomination for that award which includes the cost of the driver attending the awards gala dinner. A discounted price of $1200 for a table of ten applies.

All award recipients will be notified directly and results will be published on www.nswtaxi.org.au and in the Meter Magazine and Taxi Journal as soon as possible.

The Conditions of Entry are valid from 1st June 2008 through to 30th September 2008. The organisers of the NSW Taxi Council 2008 Taxi Driver of the Year awards reserve the right to vary the conditions of entry at any time.
