To obtain a Taxi Driver Authority you must complete the TaxiCare Plus Training course at a registered Training School.
The course is delivered in three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Road Transport) qualification will also be issued on completion of the Gold Level.

Bronze Level
The Bronze Level must be completed before participants can gain their initial one-year Taxi Driver Authority.
The Bronze Level covers four key areas: Navigation; Regulations; Customer Service; Taxi Driving Management (including Occupational Health and Safety). The course involves assessment on all modules, including practical and computer based tests and an on-road assessment of taxi driver skills. Drivers must also pass an English test.
Silver Level
The Silver Level commences when drivers begin driving. They are issued with a Training Log to keep record of their progress as a taxi driver. The Log has been substantially updated to make it more effective in helping drivers learn on the job. The completed Log must be signed off by the operator, the network, the NSW Taxi Council and the training school.
Drivers must attend two one-day workshops at the training school, one after two months and one after six to nine months of driving. The content of the workshops has been designed to draw more systematically on drivers’ on road experience.
An interesting new innovation is the introduction of the NSW Taxi Council Silver Level Seminar. All drivers must attend this half day seminar where they will hear industry updates on significant issues affecting the NSW Taxi Industry and have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback. Presenters and panel members include representatives of the NSW Taxi Council, Ministry of Transport, Transport Workers Union, members of the taxi industry and a presentation from Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. Assessment in the Silver Level includes a holistic on-road assessment of taxi driver skills.
All participants must complete the Silver level to be issued their three-year Taxi Driver Authority.
Gold Level
The Gold Level has been designed for those who wish to continue training and to gain the Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Road Transport) qualification. This level will take place between 6 to 12 months after being issued their initial Authority. The Gold Level includes the Certificate in Taxicare Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Service Driver Training course and the focus is skills gained on the job. A second training log and further workshops will enhance the training and first year taxi driving experience.
