Revised ATIS Appointment Process

NSW T&I manages the appointment process of ATIS examiners in consultation with the NSW Taxi Council, and this includes: 
  • Location of ATIS sites (target area).
  • Marketing to the target areas through an ‘Expressions of Interest’ (EOI) by advertising:
    -         In the targeted area local newspapers,
    -         Direct mail-out to all open Authorised Inspection Stations (AIS) in targeted areas,
    -         NSW Taxi Council ‘METER’ and ‘TAXI’ magazines, and,
    -         NSW T&I website
  • Selection Process - Whereby applicants are evaluated and short-listed to establish an order of merit.
  • ATIS examiners (new and existing) must sign and abide by a Code of Conduct.
  • A worksite assessment is conducted, to validate the applicants’ application and evaluate workshop facilities. In Transport Districts an on-site worksite assessment is conducted of short-listed applicants.
  • Subject to the findings of the worksite assessment the preferred applicant will be issued a copy of ATIS Training Course material which includes; Manual of Inspection Standards for Taxi-cabs, ATIS Bulletins and Taxi-cab Livery (if applicable).
  • The preferred applicant (both Examiner and Proprietor/Proprietor Nominee) are required to successfully complete an ATIS Training Course (offered by the NSW Taxi Council).
  • Advise the successful applicant.
  • Advise unsuccessful applicants.
  • ATIS authority issued (max. 5 year ATIS term) to successful applicant.
  • Process applications for renewal of ATIS term when due.
