Following concerns raised by taxi drivers, the NSW Taxi Council conducted assessments of the Mount Druitt, Blacktown (2) and Seven Hills (2) taxi ranks. Officers from the NSW Police and Blacktown Council were also involved in the process.
The ranks were assessed from an infrastructure and security point of view in line with the NSW Taxi Council’s Taxi Rank Guidelines, with particular reference to CCTV coverage, seating, lighting, regulatory signage, way finding signage, disability/pram access ramps, tactile tiles, kerbside height, ingress and egress from the ranks, shelter, shopping trolley storage and pedestrian access.
A full report has been lodged with the relevant authorities highlighting the deficiencies at each rank.
During the assessments, it was noted that a few taxi drivers threw rubbish out of their cab at the ranks. Taxi drivers are requested to respect other drivers by keeping the rank area clean and tidy for all users and using the garbage receptacles provided.
