The NSW Taxi Council is proud to announce its adoption of the Women’s Safety Charter, a landmark initiative led by Transport for NSW to improve the safety of women in public spaces, including the NSW Taxi Industry. This step reflects our commitment to making Taxis a safer, more welcoming environment for all passengers.
The Women's Safety Charter brings together Government agencies, industry, advocates, and community organisations to work collectively on safety initiatives. It is guided by three core principles:
➡️ a culture of gender equity – ensuring equitable access and representation in the planning, design and management of public spaces
➡️ listen, share, and reflect – using data, knowledge sharing and evidence-based solutions to improve safety
➡️ partnership approach – collaborating across sectors to develop, evaluate and enhance initiatives through collective action.
Through this commitment, we reinforce our dedication to creating safe, inclusive, and professional Taxi Services across New South Wales, ensuring that women can travel with confidence and feeling safe.
The Women’s Safety Charter outlines practical ways organisations can contribute to safer cities, from improving lighting and design in public areas to providing inclusive training, data sharing, and community engagement. By joining this initiative, adopters gain access to a collaborative Community of Practice where ideas, best practices, and real-world projects are shared to foster a lasting impact.
