The NSW Taxi Council is grateful for the continued support from Business Sydney, advocating for a fairer CTP system for Taxis and Rideshare.

Executive Director at Business Sydney, Paul Nicolaou said:

"Sydney should be concerned that up to 300 Taxi Operators a year are leaving the industry and one of the reasons is there is no level playing field with Rideshare when it comes to Compulsory Third Party (CTP) premiums. Cab operators are paying up to $6,000 a year while rideshare operators pay just the standard premium of between $500 and $700.

Business Sydney is supporting the NSW Taxi Council’s ‘Make it Fair’ campaign.

The NSW Taxi Council noted that if we want to see where this operating cost issue is going, we need go no further than London where the traditional black cabs, that help give the city its iconic look, are an endangered species. A recent report said Black Cabs could be gone by 2040 if current rescue efforts don’t work.

The NSW Taxi Council emphasised that it does not want Sydney to go that way and encourages NSW Government to examine and adopt the CTP arrangements that apply in Queensland and Victoria, which are more equitable. The need is urgent because some regional centres in NSW are already without any taxis.
