Sydney Airport has issued a ban notice to a Sydney Taxi Service Provider, restricting any vehicles from its fleet to access the kerbside pick up at all three terminals within Sydney Airport, from Friday 26th September 2025. We understand that the ban will be in place for a 24 month period.
The NSW Taxi Council supports Sydney Airport’s move to apply the ban placed on the Service Provider, which we understand operates over 250 Taxis within its fleet in Sydney.
NSW Taxi Council CEO, Nick Abrahim said:
“This ban will send a strong message to those Service Providers who are not cooperating with requests by key Stakeholders, including Sydney Airport. The NSW Taxi Council is committed to working with those in our Industry who are committed to adhering to the state’s regulations, service excellence and adhering to a high level of standards. To those who are not prepared to lift their game, our message is clear – this ban is only a starting point. The taxi industry will go as far as it needs to in order to ensure compliance and cooperation by all Service Providers who want to be a part of our industry and carry the brand “Taxi.”
The latest move by Sydney Airport is a great example of the NSW Taxi Industry working in collaboration with key Partners towards joint efforts in ensuring compliance with the Regulations as well as accountability for those choosing to do the wrong thing.
This ban follows the rollout of a NSW Taxi Council led “Taxi Concierge” initiative, in collaboration with Industry Partners, which has been in place now for three months. The Concierge Program has been a positive step towards enhancing the passenger experience, when accessing Taxis at Sydney Airport. Furthermore, the Taxi Concierge have also been instrumental in reporting issues and incidents, allowing for swift action by Service Providers. We commend the majority of Service Providers who are cooperating and taking appropriate action in dealing with drivers and operators when reported by Sydney Airport and the NSW Taxi Council.
We understand that safety for all is the number one priority for Sydney Airport. The NSW Taxi Council recently facilitated a safety forum between Sydney Airport and Industry Stakeholders to understand and work through key issues arising from a number of Taxi Drivers’ behaviour, presenting a number of risks at the precinct. It was very positive to see the overwhelming support from Industry, committed to working towards addressing any safety concerns.
However, the message from Sydney Airport is very clear. To those who are prepared to do the right thing and comply with the rules, you are welcome. To those who choose to do the wrong thing and not cooperate, further action will be taken as required.
Delivering excellent service is our commitment, for all passengers visiting or travelling through our wonderful city, Sydney.
We look forward to continuing our work with Sydney Airport towards ensuring a high level of standards are maintained.
