IPART HAS RELEASED THE DRAFT REPORT FOR ITS REVIEW OF MAXIMUM RANK AND HAIL TAXI FARES
IPART wants to hear from stakeholders and interested parties about their view on the draft recommended fares and draft recommendations set out in the Draft Report.
They found that demand and supply in the rank and hail taxi market are generally on balance, except for three situations:
-
Wheelchair accessible services
-
Services for passengers travelling short distances
-
Services for passengers leaving Sydney Airport.
They have made draft recommendations to rebalance fare components to address these issues. We are also recommending a trial of a fixed taxi fare from Sydney Airport to the Sydney CBD (postcode 2000).
They invite submissions to the Draft Report by Tuesday 1 April 2025, and they are holding a Public Hearing on 10 March 2025.

NSW TAXI COUNCIL WELCOMES WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE TAXI "$15 MILLION FUNDING" AS A POSITIVE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The NSW Taxi Council welcomes the announcement by the NSW Government of a “ $15 Million Funding Package” supporting Wheelchair Accessible Taxis in NSW as a positive step in the right direction to help improve services across NSW.

There are 625 Registered Wheelchair Taxis in NSW, with an estimated 450 operating in Sydney alone. The number of Wheelchair Taxis operating has declined by over 30% since the Covid pandemic hit. Unfortunately, this has had a significant impact on the availability of Wheelchair Taxis for passengers using a wheelchair as well as extended wait times with passenger pick up.
